into abstraction | all the days are long | a we’ve come so far remix | a place of subtle nuance

In life it seems, at times, that all the days are long. Caught in-between work, play, dreams, and aspirations. Those days can take the form of too many hours worked, too many hours away from home and loved ones, or too many memories and missed opportunities–taxing, struggling, pushing forward day after day. Sometimes we get a moment of reprieve; a day at the beach, a solitary place in time and space, the joining together of friends, family, and loved ones, or a beautiful hike on the summit of a mountain. Subtle nuances all converging in daily life, testing our resolve, our purpose, or giving pleasure and peace to our efforts.

Sometimes in the waking the reality is more pressing than the dream. And the search for “a better place” takes me inside the abstract. It seems that for only a moment, when art becomes a reality, that I am free from the stress and trials of life. When burden by the complexity of life, I long for escape: Into the abstract. Into the meaning of what it is to be alive. To delineate the constraints of the mundane. To have passion. It is here, in the expression and story of my life through the process of creativity, that I encounter that which gives me any measurable sense of peace and self-awareness.

“Into Abstraction | A Better Place (a viable nuance remix)” continues the theme of the smallest of nuances being the focal point. Within those nuances, the layering of sound and imagery are explored through the digital process. Each film builds upon the vision and nuances of the previous films.

your world beginning | into the gathering of dreams – day 3

“Into the Gathering of Dreams – Day 3”, continues my series “Your World Beginning”, which explores the fusion of past, present, and future through the lens of daily life, dreams, and aspirations; beautiful times gone by, transcending the mundane, and an unknown future. The series is an attempt to capture the essence of being in the present moment, while simultaneously reliving moments from the past and dreaming of the future: Into the gathering of dreams.

The central filming in the video is from an afternoon biking at the Forks Area Trail System (FATS) in South Carolina, located on the border of South Carolina and Georgia. The filming of the biking was produced in 2010. The system consists of four machine-made trails, each approximately 6 miles in length. They are fast and free-flowing, making for a wonderful biking experience. Located in the midlands of South Carolina, the trails themselves are not as intimidating as the mountain trails located in North Carolina and are a joy to ride.

“Into the Gathering of Dreams” combines different elements, each having its own moment in time and space. I recently watched again, a documentary on the opera “Einstein on the Beach” by Robert Wilson and Phillip Glass. I had the pleasure of seeing this 4 hour opera in 1984 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I mention this because the main concept was how time and space interacts with objects, people and places. Place a familiar object in an unfamiliar place and you create a new reality. Surreal, beautiful, conflicting, or contrasting, yet a reality unto itself. Part of my process as a digital artist is to reinvent and remix these “realities”. The digital medium and digital process itself, provides a beautiful, infinite and creative end to this objective. And it is also my objective through the process to infuse an emotional integrity, influenced by the experiences we all share. To touch on something that is universal.

experiment: data complex 3 | nostalgia | video art

The day on the beach brought back memories of beautiful times gone by: She the choreographer and dancer, and he the artist and filmmaker. Together they drifted back to the beginning of their artistic dreams. Fused with the technology of the post-modern world and the collective mindset of a creative construct, they forged ahead into the unknown: History has a way of repeating itself. What is old is new. The same as it ever was. Forever and a day.

experiment: from eternity to you and i | video art

*****************

Last night I completed another video in my “Experiment” series entitled: From Eternity To You and I. I am quite excited about the results. I used various visual and audio elements in the video, including video clips, production music, and sound effects. Along with my own original video clips. I recently found a great video stock company called Video Blocks that provides high quality HD formatted videos clips, soundtracks in all genres, effects, titles, plug-ins and sound effects. The most exciting elements of this piece in producing it, was the video editing and sound editing. I am still adjusting to learning the various tools for more precise sculpturing of elements e.g. sound layering. But all in all I can see the potential for increased creativity. My goal is to move more toward the abstract, both in sound and imagery. Keeping in pace with the themes of Surrealism, Futurism and Dadaism.

The Drive Home After Seeing You For The First Time

The drive home after seeing you for the first time; lingers like the sweet dark night…

in a moment
just like this
your kiss …

– my angel

I had to include this song from Trespassers Williams. They are one of my favorite Dream Pop bands. While working on the image for this post, I downloaded their latest and last album entitled “Cast” (2012). A 2 cd set of past hits and new songs. Wonderfully crafted. Emotional as always, Trespassers Williams takes us again, to that place of love and longing. This track stood out for me and was a strong influence to the creative process for the piece. I highly recommend you listen to the song while drifting along the highway of your own dreams and memories.

Friends Forever

There is a beauty in the inter-connectedness of life and experience. We remember friends who have passed away. Their spirit, their laughter, the things they shared with us … as if it was only yesterday.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal

I started this challenge of renewal with the theme of meditation. So I will conclude the challenge with meditation as its theme as well. This piece entitled: “The Flower And The Pier In Meditation”. It was created in 2009 after a trip to Kure Beach in North Carolina. What a great place to flower ones renewal at sunrise, on the pier, in the meditation of healing. Hope you enjoy this last entry to the challenge, and see you in the next.

New Landscapes: Fall In Fashion – Windbreaker

New Landscapes: Fall In Fashion - Windbreaker

This past summer; a beautiful discovery – a lovely beach of sand and surf; Tybee Island in Georgia near the historic City of Savannah. Now the warm rays of the sun and the hot, humid air has slowly turned crisp and cool as Autumn and Fall have arrived. A quaint bed and breakfast stay is in the conversation and beckons us to return. The prospect of long lingering walks on nearly deserted beaches entice our senses. What’s the in-wear for Fall walks on the beach? For me, it all starts with the perfect windbreaker; blue nylon cover with soft white cotton inner, and hoodie. You’re on the beach, so shorts are still in order, (no matter how chilled it is), graphic T, or striped polo, with low-top Chuck Taylors. For Nancy, it’s all about her wearing her favorite windbreaker (yellow) as well. She’s also in a light pink wool sweater, brown corduroy leggings and pink high-top Chucks. It’s a long lovely walk on the edge of the ocean. The azul blue sky with scattered white coulds surrounding our every step. Our conversation and laughter going hand in hand with the pulse of the day.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

It has been a while since I posted on the Challenge. I really like this prompt. So here is my contribution. It is a photo taken with my Android phone of the shore line in Virginia Beach. The phone has no zoom capability. So everything looks far away. But the chair, my girlfriend and the shore line are closer than they appear. I don’t usually contribute any black and white photos, but for this challenge I felt the desire to do so. Some soft focus treatments are used on the image.
