Some more cool music from the African Congo. Dr Cogo – Tabu Ley Rochereau. Really nice stuff.

Xandi's avatarWorld Music - the Music Journey

Tabu Ley Rochereau, born in 1940, is a musician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He’s well known for internationalising his african rumba and soukous music, together with Dr Nico Kasanda. Listen to his nice piece “Mokolo Nakokufa”:

Dr. Congo. Early African Jazz. Beautiful and soothing. Reminds me of joy and the past all with dance.

Nico Kasanda, born in 1939 in Belgian Congo, was a pioneer of soukous music. He’s also known as Docteur Nico. In the young age of 14, he started playing in the group ‘Le Grand Kallé et l’African Jazz’ and became an influential guitarist, as a  meeting with Jimi Hendrix shows. He already died in 1985 in Belgium. Listen to his piece “Zadio”:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique | The Louvre in Paris, France

louvre halftone

For me, the Louvre in Paris, France definitely spells unique. Here is the original photo I took in 1990 with some up to date remixes to give it some color. The museum itself is a unique and wonderful place to visit. Here, the newly designed pyramid, that is also the entrance to the museum, is under construction. It provides a distinctive and contemporary look to the historical structure of the museum. A must visit for anyone looking for that certain unique experience.

the morning after the rain | video art

The recording for this video was actually created during a rain and wind storm. A very gray night. Here I remixed the coloring to give it a sense of morning light. An ambient start to the day. A fresh, after rain feeling. Music dub by the band Fourcolor.

Another chance recording. An evening storm approaches containing some strong winds and rain. Here is a dance of tree and wind.

when we walk together we never feel alone

The waves break along the distant shore, and with them come our dreams. Because … there is no one like you.

If There Is A Light You Are Looking For … You Will Find It Outside Your Window

As I followed the light, the journey was not long, as I soon found what I was looking for …

The Drive Home After Seeing You For The First Time

The drive home after seeing you for the first time; lingers like the sweet dark night…

in a moment
just like this
your kiss …

– my angel

I had to include this song from Trespassers Williams. They are one of my favorite Dream Pop bands. While working on the image for this post, I downloaded their latest and last album entitled “Cast” (2012). A 2 cd set of past hits and new songs. Wonderfully crafted. Emotional as always, Trespassers Williams takes us again, to that place of love and longing. This track stood out for me and was a strong influence to the creative process for the piece. I highly recommend you listen to the song while drifting along the highway of your own dreams and memories.

When You Left … Even The North Star Could Not Guide Me Home

Departure Days | Fall In Play

This is a morning workout and practice run on a lake under construction in my home town of Gray Court, SC. This was my first exploration of this terrain. Keeping it simple. A mix of soft and hard ground. Lots of rocks, making for a lot vibration moving through the body (I actually injured my left forearm from a violent vibration sustained while descending one of the slopes). It has taken a few months for it to heal. But I love the locale it looks and feels other-worldly. And being that it is less than 5 minutes away from my home, it provides a nice work out in preparation for the mountain trails. Music by glitch master Alva Noto. The video itself has little processing and no editing.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Love | Ashes to Sea

Here is a link to an older post from June 2011. In 1997 friends and I spent a week in Barbados. It was during the Sugar Crop Over Festival. A weekend long celebration, that in of itself represented Love. I will post this part of the challenge later.

But for this post, I am focusing on Love as a ceremony. A going away celebration of a loved one.

In creating this series entitled Impressions In Barbados, I was interested in mimicking the style of the impressionistic painters. Hence the title. I hope you will enjoy my look at Love.

Impressions in Barbados 03 / Ceremony

Great track if you are feeling a little blue. And I am, after having sprained my thigh on black ice today. I love the music of Jon Hassell. Thanks World Music for the post.
