New Landscapes: Fall From Summer

New Landscapes: Fall From Summer

Gotta find my way back
– home
Gotta find a road
To bring me back soon
To you

A beautiful journey
From Summer
To a far-off horizon
– in Fall

I just had to share this very powerful and delightful prose/poem by Claudia. What a fantastic journey she weaves.

.

i’m neither poet
nor a writer, rather someone,
walking the lanes of life
like an autumn day
(just half an hour during lunch break),
caught in bus pane back reflections,
uuhhh—the world
spins fast,

My boss says “we should have a closer look at how you sit at the computer–“ ergonomics & workplace safety. He rings up the maintenance man, who carries a set of allen keys and (shrrkk, shrrrrk, sorry, i– )  Desk & chair, finally adjusted, truly sized to my proportions.

we talk indian summer,
(my curly haired colleague and i)
of biking mornings over hills with mist,
wetting the valleys and the mountains
in the back & that we can’t wait
‘til the leaves clothe red&yellow,

i find traces of an owl &
watch the spider spin its web, ivy
crawls with bright green feet, up up
the trees, clings tight, just like we all do

Part 2 of Fall In Reflection. A Compositional change in form; moving toward subtle abstraction.

New Landscapes: Fall In Reflection – Part 01

New Landscapes: Fall In Reflection - Part 01

This short series entitled “Fall” is a collection of recent photographs taken with my Android phone during the summer months. What I am attempting to accomplish is a slight transition to the beauty of the Fall season by implementing various color, textural, and tonal changes. Embracing a new landscape; anticipating the coming season that we all have come to love.

A biker’s delight. Holland.

Today was going to be a cycle of the complete unknown – we had no idea where we were going.  Last night the city of Haarlem had given us a live music concert, a much-needed hearty meal and a very comfy bed for the night.

At the time the question of ‘ Where to next?’ wasn’t required…

The following morning the entire Netherlands lay before us.  Directions for far-flung places were waiting to guide us out of the city.  It was a matter of close your eyes and like candy in a candy shop, take your pick and hope each morsel is full of wonderful surprises.

That is what we did.   A postcard stand had a photo of a city called Gouda.  The photo was of wheels of yellow cheese lying in row’s on cobbled pavements.  Our curiosity made us decide to end our day there.  Simple!

Our departure…

Lovethybike is a great blog that I’ve recently discovered. And now in this post an exploration of one of my favorite countrys, The Netherlands is featured. I once had the pleasure of biking through various parts of Central Holland. It is an experience I will never forget.

After a non stop tasting of Gouda cheese our bellies look like well-rounded wheels, we could easily roll out of Gouda, instead we are pedalling.   Today, where ever we end up, we will have to catch a fast train to the Hook of Holland.  We have a ferry to catch back to England.  Rotterdam seems a good place to catch a train.  Our destination is decided.

The open pastures of dairy-farming lay before us.  The distinct black and white blots of the Friesian cows surround us.  As they munch happily on the lush green grass we pedal with smiles on our faces… this scene is a reminder of home.  The three of us feel as if we are back in rural New Zealand.

Canals and drains break up the pastures and our pebbly cycle trails criss crosses each other like something from a crossword puzzle.  It begins…

The Digital Painting I Found Myself In

The Digital Painting I Found Myself In

A portrait reveals a moment in time that can express a lifetime of mystery. In a photograph or painting, the artist seeks to find the deeper essence of the subject and reveal the inner persona via the constructs of light, texture, imagination and form. In a portrait there is always something to say and something we would like to know.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Mine

Weekly Photo Challenge: Mine

for all time
with endless love
mine

All weekend I have been thinking of my lovely daughter Lady, and her timeless heart. Never to be forgotten. This has always been one of my favorite photographs of her: Young, beautiful and imaginative. I thought this week’s challenge would be a perfect tribute to her. Rest in peace my Lady Pooh.

The Path To Grace And The Summit Of Ascension

The Path To Grace And The Summit Of Ascension

Last night
I had a dream
So deep
Forever freeing

Never a moment
Did I long for awareness
Of the waking world
Here on the path of Grace

Beauty
Stillness
Love
As I ascended
Through the floating
Orbs of mystery
– past – time
And the Grace
That is You

A Moment In The Woods And A Mountain To Look Up To

A Moment In The Woods And A Mountain To Look Up To

I love the season of the bike
In the woods
On the mountain
By the lake
Over the rocks and streams
With blue skies above
Through fallen leaves and barren trees
A trail that weaves to and fro
A drop here
A lift there
I love the season of the bike
In the woods
On the mountain

delineated by the question
of rights and wrongs
in life …

A drowning so timeless
Endless without you

What Do You Feel When You Look Skyward

What Do You Feel When You Look Skyward

i often look skyward
to direct my focus inward
sometimes feeling the sky speak
as I see things in a different light.
– than yesterday

the rain has gone
falling earthbound
– like the pepples of broken nights
with my dreams
lost in weary shadows
not to far behind
– from yesterday’s rising sun

These are some magnificent pastels works of art by Richard at Artkleko’s weblog entitled Southern Midlands.

artkleko's avatarartkleko's Weblog

Earlier in the week I completed a series of 5 pastel paintings featuring aspects of Tasmania’s Southern Midlands. This was my first serious foray in pastels for a very long time, but after 10 days’ work I had reached my goal. I wouldn’t call them brilliant by any means, but I enjoyed the experience and used my time to see what I knew and after an evaluation, what I needed to work on.

I am however, pleased with what I’ve achieved and  now I have embarked on a direction that is different, but one that I hope will produce something of note. (I’m currently working on a series of semi-abstracts, beginning with subjects from my recent time in Central Australia. I aim to post an update next week.)

The Southern Midlands area of Tasmania is more often dry than not. It can be a very dusty area, with little pasture…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

A solitary moment can be found almost anywhere. Mountain biking, gives me the opportunity to be one with nature, explore my inner solitude and focus my imposing will against the difficult terrain. Here is a shot from this weekend as my partner and I rode the trails at FANTS Grove at the forestry of Clemson University in South Carolina.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life

Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life

I took this shot at Virginia Beach. A leisure kind of day. As we go through life, we sometimes need a ‘break’ from everyday life.

A Link To My New Published Art Book

http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3536063 Check out my new art book. I have taken the best posts from my blog that express my love for abstract art, prose, and poetry. It is a blissful, mindful examination of all things from an introspective anaylsis. I am very excited. The book is a small square, 76 page volume hardcover. Available at BlurbBooks. Your thoughts and comments are welcome. And with the holiday season on the horizon, perhaps you will find it to be the perfect gift. Peace and Love.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

It has been a while since I posted on the Challenge. I really like this prompt. So here is my contribution. It is a photo taken with my Android phone of the shore line in Virginia Beach. The phone has no zoom capability. So everything looks far away. But the chair, my girlfriend and the shore line are closer than they appear. I don’t usually contribute any black and white photos, but for this challenge I felt the desire to do so. Some soft focus treatments are used on the image.

Another Earth: Ferris Wheel

Just across the ocean, under a glistening sky, a new town, a turning place, one that we have yet to discover …

Another Earth: Ferris Wheel

there’s a happiness

come to earth

with its new birth

spinning lightly in the night sky

children play with their dreams

 – unaware

enchanted by the magic and loss

that has come to town

our every wishful moment

 – found here

on the Ferris Wheel of Life …

One of my favorite film soundtracks is BT’s Ferris Wheel – Love Theme from the film Monster starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci. A beautiful and haunting song. It hangs in the balance of love and life and its uncertainty.

Another Earth: The Transcending Dream

You touched me with your thoughts as I felt your dreams float away …

Another Earth: The Transcending Dream

in a dream

another earth …

Another Earth: Bridge Over Water

If on a beautiful day at the beach, we could just bridge the gap between our dreams and our reality …

Another Earth: Bridge Over Water

I often find in the solace of nature’s tranquility, my mind, floating on the ocean waves, and soaring with the clouds above. Here my dreams drift. With untold stories of yearning. A forgotten moment here, an aspiration there. All together within me.

Perhaps gone and abandoned.

Until this very thought, this very day. On the beach. And now, fully free of life’s constraints, I walk across this bridge. A bridge over endless water … The internal ocean of desires.

the deep blue sea

floods my being

– with discovery

and perpetual longing

 – unfolding
